The term ‘spike system’ is given to bird deterrent systems that rely on flexible, upward pointing wires or ‘spikes’ to act as a humane physical barrier to birds; typically feral pigeons and gulls. They come in a variety of forms, shapes and sizes and are typically used to prevent roosting or perching on areas such as ledges, parapets, pipes, beams, gutters, lighting and corporate signage.
Professional systems are manufactured with polycarbonate bases and stainless steel spikes. Cheaper, plastic systems are available though these are only really suitable for use in light pressure areas e.g. in situations where very low numbers of birds are involved. Installation is generally straightforward providing safe access is available and that appropriate surface preparation has been undertaken.
